Removals Dunstable starts with knowing the town’s one-way system, because High Street North, West Street and the streets feeding the town centre do not forgive an unplanned approach. A removal van that arrives without a parking and loading plan can lose an hour before a single box leaves the house. Our Dunstable-based depot at Nimbus Park in Houghton Regis puts us minutes from the LU5 postcode, which means our advisers know exactly which streets need a parking suspension, which bays are timed and which approach runs smoothest before the morning retail traffic builds.
The Priory area and the streets around St Peter’s Church are the trickiest part of town for loading access. Roads near Dunstable Priory are narrow, on-street parking fills early and the one-way flow on High Street North means the van has to be positioned correctly before carrying starts. For any Dunstable town-centre move, we advise checking restrictions with Central Bedfordshire Council a few working days in advance and, where needed, arranging a parking suspension to hold a legal loading bay.
We work the same way we have since 2002. An adviser visits, takes a detailed inventory, and builds a tailored removal package around your property, your access and your date. Nothing is bolted on later.
Dunstable’s housing stock is varied, and each part of town brings its own set of access considerations.
The older terrace streets near the town centre, particularly around West Street, Icknield Way and the roads running off High Street North, were built before removal lorries existed. Doorways are narrow, staircases turn sharply and front-of-house parking is often shared with neighbouring properties. Wardrobes, sofas and larger bedroom furniture typically need to come apart inside the house and go back together at the new address.
Grove Park and the streets near Dunstable Downs are a different picture. Roads are generally wider, driveways are more common on the 1930s to 1960s semis and access is more straightforward, but visitor parking rules on newer sections of the estate can still complicate a van positioning if the survey has not accounted for them.
The Woodside Estate and the Manshead area present the narrower estate-road challenge common to post-war development: roads that were not designed for 7.5-tonne lorries. Tight turns, speed humps and resident permit zones all affect how the van approaches the property. Our advisers factor all of this into the quote visit rather than leaving it for the morning of the move.
Dunstable sits at a genuinely useful crossing of routes for a moving company. The A5 (Watling Street) runs north to south through the town, connecting to Milton Keynes to the north and Luton to the south-east. M1 Junction 11 and Junction 11A are a short run from the town centre, J11 for northbound and J11A for the A5/M1 interchange, giving quick motorway access for London, the Midlands and beyond.
That said, the A5 through Dunstable and into Luton slows noticeably during the morning commuter window. The Luton and Dunstable Guided Busway corridor between Dunstable and Luton generates its own congestion at peak hours, and the approaches to M1 J11 from the Houghton Regis direction can queue back from 7.30 onwards on weekdays.
For a standard house removals Dunstable job, we aim to have the van loaded and away before 9.30 if the route runs south towards Luton or on to London via the M1. Moves heading north on the A5 to Milton Keynes or west to Leighton Buzzard avoid those queues almost entirely and can start and load at a more relaxed pace. Your adviser will suggest a start time specific to your route on the day.
Property type shapes moving day more than most people expect. A Victorian terrace near the Priory and a 1980s detached on a newer Houghton Regis estate are technically in the same postcode corridor, but they are two different moves.
On the Victorian and Edwardian terraces around the town centre, original floorboards, lath-and-plaster walls and narrow staircases mean protection matters from the first carry. We bring Defenda Guard furniture covers, hallway floor runners, banister wrap and door-frame protectors as standard. Large pieces come apart at the start of the day and go back together once they are in the new property, which protects both the furniture and the house.
On the 1930s to postwar semis that make up much of the middle band of Dunstable’s housing stock, driveways help with loading access but rear-extension kitchens and loft rooms with steep pull-down stairs add handling complications our advisers note during the survey visit.
On the newer estates by the Downs and around Houghton Regis, the main variables are estate-road width, visitor parking availability and whether any communal areas need protecting during a flat move. Our packing service Dunstable option scales to cover any property type, from a breakables-only box of china and pictures up to a full pack and unpack with materials disposal at the end.
A moving company Dunstable residents can rely on does more than drive a van from one address to another. Our standard removals package covers a pre-move survey visit, a tailored written quote, a planned crew and vehicle matched to your volume, furniture dismantling and reassembly, protective covers as standard, and a route and timing plan built around your specific address.
Beyond the core move, our storage Dunstable option means chain breaks do not have to derail everything. Our individually alarmed storage units at Nimbus Park in Houghton Regis, less than two miles from the Dunstable town centre, run 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in a range of sizes priced by the cubic foot. If your buyer completes before you do, we move you out on the day and return the load when you are ready.
We also offer a full packing service for customers who want the breakables handled by the people doing the carrying. Removal company near Dunstable Downs customers moving to or from one of the larger period or detached properties particularly value this when there is a lot of antique furniture, china or artwork to protect.
Storage options are available both short and long term, and we can talk through what makes sense for your move when we visit for the survey.

We plan a legal loading position as part of the pre-move survey. For streets near the Dunstable Priory, High Street North and the town centre one-way system, we advise arranging a parking suspension with Central Bedfordshire Council a few working days in advance. The van is positioned correctly before carrying starts, so the one-way flow does not cause a mid-load reposition.
For moves heading south towards Luton or onto the M1, loading before 9.00 and leaving by 9.30 clears the worst of the morning queue. The A5 through Dunstable and the approaches to M1 J11 from Houghton Regis can back up from around 7.30. Moves heading north to Milton Keynes or west to Leighton Buzzard are less time-sensitive and can start later with no penalty.
Yes, particularly on the streets near the town centre and the Priory area. Narrow carriageways, limited on-street parking and tight front doorways all need planning. Our adviser checks access at the survey visit and identifies whether a parking suspension is needed, whether large furniture needs to be dismantled first and which approach road gives the van the cleanest stop.
Yes. Dismantling and reassembly is part of our standard removals package. Wardrobes, beds, large sofas and other oversized pieces are taken apart in the bedroom and put back together in the new property. Our crew carry the tools, and nothing is left for you to sort out at the end of the day.
Yes. Our packing service Dunstable option scales from a breakables-only service — covering china, pictures and fragile items — up to a full pack and unpack with materials disposal. We supply book boxes, tea chests, bubble wrap and tape. The breakables are wrapped, boxed and labelled by the people carrying them, which keeps damage low.
Yes. Our storage Dunstable facility at Nimbus Park in Houghton Regis is under two miles from the town centre. Units are individually alarmed, available in a range of sizes, priced by the cubic foot, and accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We move you out on completion day and return the load when your chain or your new property is ready.
The most common corridors are Dunstable to Luton, Dunstable to Leighton Buzzard, Dunstable to Milton Keynes and Dunstable to Aylesbury. Local moves within the LU5 area — particularly between Dunstable and Houghton Regis — are also frequent. We also handle M1 Junction 11A removals for longer London and Midlands runs.
It depends on your street. Restrictions vary across Dunstable: the town centre and Priory area streets are more likely to need one than the residential estates further out. Your adviser will check during the survey visit and guide you on whether to apply to Central Bedfordshire Council for a suspension and how far in advance to do so.
Need a survey-led quote for a removals Dunstable job? Tell us your preferred moving date, your property type, and your street, whether that is a terrace near the Priory, a semi near Grove Park or a newer estate by the Downs.
