What do house removals not take, and what should Slough customers do with bulky waste
Removal companies are not a clearance service, and there are categories of items we cannot load onto a vehicle regardless of the job size.
Items Alltime cannot take include:
- Hazardous materials: paint tins with liquid remaining, gas canisters, solvents and any item classed as dangerous goods under RHA regulations
- Perishable food: open fridges and freezers should be emptied and defrosted at least 24 hours before move day
- Plants: large or fragile plants are carried at owner’s risk and are not covered under goods-in-transit insurance
- High-value items without prior declaration: jewellery, cash and documents should travel with you rather than in the removal vehicle
- Items requiring specialist handling such as pianos and pool tables (these can be quoted separately as specialist lifts)
For anything that cannot come on the van, Slough Borough Council runs a bulky waste collection service for large items such as mattresses, sofas and white goods. For items in reasonable condition, the Britwell Community Centre and local charity shops in the Queensmere area accept donated furniture by arrangement.
If you have a mix of items to move and items to clear, let our adviser know at survey stage. We also offer a rubbish clearance and certified disposal service that can run alongside the removal on the same day.

How far in advance should I book a removals company in Slough?
For most moves, booking 4 to 6 weeks ahead gives you more date options. For moves on a popular Friday or at end of month when many tenancy agreements and completions fall, 6 to 8 weeks is safer. We can occasionally accommodate shorter notice but we cannot guarantee crew availability at peak times.
